Cake Box Design
For this project, I was responsible for redesigning a product of my choice, with the requirement to incorporate a pattern within the design. I chose to do cake boxes since I wanted to design cupcake graphics for each individual flavor and create a pattern out of them. I chose three of the most popular cake flavors.
Designing the Pattern

When creating these designs I wanted the color palettes for each cupcake to be different. Stand out from each other on the shelves.
I started with one cupcake design and used it as a template when creating the others.
I wanted some design aspects to change from cupcake to cupcake, just to create some variation to the different flavors other than a different color palette.
My goal when creating the cupcakes was to create an image/graphic that would grab the attention of consumers walking by, make it stand out from all the other boxes on the shelves. I thought the bright colors and the use of cupcakes would better engage a younger audience.
When considering a product that could benefit from a redesign, Betty Crocker Cake Boxes came to mind. The existing box design has been consistent for years, but it lacks uniqueness on grocery store shelves. I believed that replacing the image of a cake slice with illustrated cupcakes could make the packaging more appealing, particularly to a younger audience.
The typography choice is very similar to their current font. I used the same font throughout to keep it consistent with the logo.
One of the best aspects of this piece is the pattern on the box. I loved spending time coming up with different ways to present each flavor.

Conclusion
I’m proud of the outcome of this box design project. I aimed to make the packaging stand out on the shelves, and I believe that the vibrant colors and patterns helped achieve that goal.
